The "Marshmelons" from Lakewood High School were the overall champion quartet in the 10th Annual High School Barbershop Quartet Contest held at Denver University's Lamont School of Music on Feb 18.
There are divisions for boys and girls quartets (the boys sponsored by the Denver Mile High and Denver MountainAires Barbershop chapters, and the girls sponsored by Region 8 Sweet Adelines), however the "Marshmelons" are a mixed quartet (3 boys and a girl).
The winning girls quartet "An A-choir-ed Taste" was also from Lakewood High, and the winning boys quartet "4-12 Blast" was from both Overland and Cherokee Trail High Schools. The "Marshmelons" topped all scores, singing barbershop arrangements of "When I'm 64" (Beatles) and "Bring Him Home" (from Les Miserables). T
hey will perform their contest set on the Denver MountainAires annual spring show on Saturday April 19 (at 2:00 and 7:00) at Green Mountain High School. Professional comedy quartet "The Kowalski Twins" will also perform on this show, "Best of Barbershop". Tickets $15 at the door, only $12 in advance
