Renée Crowder is Jefferson Unitarian Church's September Volunteer of the Month.
If I only had one word to describe Renée, it would be dyn-o-mite! This woman is a firecracker with quite a zest for life. Renée comes from a family of four, two boys and two girls, each 18 months apart.
She grew up on the east coast and lived there until she met her husband, Scott, in the late 80s. Married in 1989, they settled in Colorado in 1993. They soon began attending JUC, joining in 1995.
Renée was impressed with JUC from the start. The Crowders have two girls,
Madison and
Meredith, and were quite pleased with the religious education available for them.
Renée wants her girls to be empowered and is inspired by all the powerful women in JUC's congregation. She feels much goodwill at JUC and knows it's a place where people can connect.
When I asked Renée why she volunteered, she said it's just what you do! She believes if you want something badly enough you have to put the hours in; if you want to change something then you have to take a stand for it. In the time I spoke with her, I can see she lives this belief.
Renée has given countless hours of service to JUC as the memorial reception coordinator for five years. She's also been in the stewardship campaign group as well as YRUU and the OWL program. As for her personal life, Renée has worked as a nurse for many years and adores her job.
She also dearly loves her family; she couldn't say enough good things about them when we spoke. She has a true appreciation for life, and I can tell she thoroughly enjoys the one she has!
