Second WindFund, a fund of The Jefferson Foundation, and
Abiding Hope Lutheran Church will present a panel discussion on "Suicide and Diverse Faith Perspectives" March 18 from 4:30 to 6:30 at 6337 S. Robb Way in Littleton.
The Second Wind Fund is now in its 6 th year of providing counseling for students who are deemed at risk for suicide and who are uninsured and underinsured. Although established as a grass-roots community project at Green Mountain Presbyterian Church in Lakewood, the Second Wind Fund holds no religious affiliation. To date the Fund has been able to provide counseling for 539 youth throughout the Denver Metro area.
Guest panelists will represent various faith traditions and backgrounds including: mainline and Evangelical Protestant, Catholic, Buddhist, Muslim, Unitarian and Judaic. In addition to a philosophical discussion regarding how different faith traditions approach suicide, the discussion will include information about suicide risk factors, suicide prevention, and talk about the community's efforts at teen suicide prevention through the Second Wind Fund.
Light refreshments will be served and a nursery for children under 3 years will be provided.. The public is welcome to attend and participate in the discussions.
