During a week-long day camp in early June organized in conjunction with the Arvada Center, girls worked hand-in-hand with local industry professionals to learn the ins and outs of creating a comedy routine.
Girls learned about the different types of comedy, stage directions and theater layout, how to write a comedy scene, how to perform safe and choreographed stage falls and stage combat techniques, how to use their voice and move on stage, as well as the use facial expression and characterization. The week concluded with a performance for friends and family at the brand new Black Box Theater at the Arvada Center.
This day camp is just the beginning of the Girl Scout summer camp season! There are many day and overnight camps in a variety of topic areas being offered between now and early August.
And there are spots still available for area girls, not just Girl Scouts, ages 6-17 to attend. Visit the council Web site at
www.girlscoutsmilehi.org or call 303-778-8774 for more information. Financial assistance to attend camp is available and adult volunteers are also still needed to help at several area day camp locations.
The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities offers a variety of fun and educational classes from dance to ceramics, theater arts, yoga, music and many more for both children and adults throughout the year. Call 720-898-7200 or visit
