FIVE STRAIGHT INCREASES AT GOLDEN GOLF TOURNAMENT
The recent Ali Meyer Foundation Golf Tournament resulted in the highest cash donations and the lowest golf scores in the history of the event.
For the fifth straight year, the tournament inspired the greatest-ever level of giving among its participants and sponsors, benefiting The Children's Hospital of Denver to provide rehabilitation equipment for needy children. This year, the event generated $19,600, a 4.5 percent increase over last year's record-setting amount.
"We are very proud of increasing the amount that we have raised each year for the five years we have held our tournament," said Valerie Meyer, vice president of the Ali Meyer Foundation. "In this economy, we did not expect to break our previous records, but did so because our sponsors stepped up again and our golfers were very generous buying silent auction items, mulligans and even donating cash. Ali would be very proud of us."
The non-profit Ali Meyer Foundation was established by Arapahoe County residents Dennis and Valerie Meyer in memory of their daughter, Ali, who died in late 2002 after being struck by a drunk driver. The foundation raises money to help disadvantaged children who need rehabilitation equipment following accidents. It also works with Mothers Against Drunk Driving to increase awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving.
The golf tournament was held at Fossil Trace Golf Club in Golden. The winning team consisted of Randy Kreft, Krys Peterson, Deb Bohac and Trent Wood. In winning for the fourth time in five years, the team set a tournament record with a score of 23-under-par. Other winners: Kari Anderson and Andy Bacon, closest to the pin winner, ladies' and men's divisions respectively; Krys Peterson and Chris Leebelt, longest drive, ladies' and men's divisions respectively.
Platinum sponsors this year included the following: Burg, Simpson, Eldredge, Hersh and Jardine P.C., S.P. Richards Co. and Precis E-business Systems. Gold sponsors this year included the following: Personal Attitudes, Colorado Business Bank, Colorado Capital Bank, The HON Company, DMI Office Furniture, Colorado Rockies Baseball Club, Terratectonics and Latisys (formerly Data393). The Corporate sponsor was Office Liquidators of Lakewood.
The main speaker at the event was Dr. Susan Apkon, who cared for Ali Meyer while she was in the hospital.
