John Spice to run for Golden City Council

To continue his service to Golden, John Spice has announced his candidacy for Golden City Council - Ward 3 in the upcoming election this fall. In this time of economic uncertainty, we need City Councilors to act responsibly with our taxpayer dollars, to maintain a sound financial basis for Golden and ask the tough questions on where our tax dollars are being spent. John will be that type of City Councilor.

John and his wife Cyndi have been married 38 years. They have two grown children, Jason and Jessica. John has a degree in Business Administration - Accounting. During his 31-year professional career, he worked as an accountant, a computer analyst and as a project manager.

John and Cyndi moved to Golden in 1996 from Saudi Arabia where John worked for 20 years. Since his retirement in 1999, he has served Golden in many different capacities including serving on the Citizen Budget Advisory Committee (CBAC) for over 4 years and as Coordinator of the Sustainability Building Group. John has also been a member of the Golden Lions Club since 2000 and was instrumental in the Lions Club financing and constructing gazebos in the Norman D, Beverly Heights and Southridge neighborhood parks.

In 2001, with the help of some very good friends, he began publishing a weekly newsletter "Hot Off the WIRE" (originally "The Heart of Golden") and the "Goldenwire.net" web site. His objective, through the newsletter and web site, is to inform the citizens of Golden about local news and events, raise their awareness of major issues in our city and encourage them to become involved in our Golden community.

Over the 13 years John has lived in Golden, he has volunteered with Leadership Golden, the Golden Civic Foundation, the Golden Chamber of Commerce, Clear Creek History Park, Astor House Museum and is a member of American Legion Golden Post 21.

John would like to hear your comments and concerns about the Golden's future. Email him at SPICEC@comcast.net or call him at 303-216-1688 with any questions, comments or concerns. John invites all of you to join his campaign. The "Spice for City Council" campaign committee consists of Ed Dorsey and former Ward 3 City Councilor, Bob Nelson.
