After taking photos of the Quaintance Block in the lights and snow, I looked around for other neat sights of downtown Golden to share with everyone.
Downtown Golden has made a public display of holiday lights for 84 years, since 1922 when the Golden Fire Department and Golden Kiwanis Club teamed up to give Golden its first community Christmas tree. It was a tall, beautiful evergreen brought down from near Genesee Mountain, lit by red and green lights lent by the Colorado School of Mines.
The community Christmas tree became Golden's annual tradition, with power donated by the Jefferson County Power & Light Company (later Colorado Central Power Co.) headquartered in the Rubey Block at the southeast corner of 12th and Washington.
Pretty soon this became downtown's first building decorated with Christmas lights, and then many others followed, and downtown's holiday lighting tradition has taken on many forms ever since.
