Haiku to hike the Butte

As this last storm proves, winter is coming in with a bang this year -- good thing, because it is to be my last year here in Golden, Colorado. Alas, next summer I am moving out to California where my new wife Becky Leenheer (Doherty) is fininshing her medical residency. As tough a decision as it was, I chose my love for her over my love for skiing and the Rocky Mountains. So, this year I am getting as much skiing in as possible before moving to Los Angeles.

Two weeks ago I went to Crested Butte for the first time and absolutely loved it! However, I only was able to gaze at the amazing extreme terrain; it was all still closed due to lack of snow. But it definitely whet my appetite for more. It looks like there is some great terrain to reach by hiking off the top of the lifts also.

Even if I do not win an X-Card, I hope that I can at least entertain the others who are looking to win. Since I want to hike at Crested Butte, here are a few haikus for your enjoyment:

Skiing through fresh snow;
but look out, a cliff ahead!
when at Crested Butte.

Four free days of fun
The X-Card has to offer
who will win the prize?

To Los Angeles,
From snowy Colorado--
I will follow love

Snowflakes drifting down
Serene mountains all around
Ouch! A yard-sale crash

I hope you enjoyed these haikus almost as much as I would enjoy a X-Card before I have to leave Colorado!

Great haikus!

Sentiment over snow! That's my boy...

Great poetry Andrew. And seriously, he is willing to risk a yard sale crash. He loves his slopes - and seriously loves his wife!

My man LOVES skiing, and is phenomenal- I believes that he deserves this! Especially since the land of smog and cement awaits him for the next few years!
