Have you ever had that uneasy feeling about meeting someone at your home or perhaps the local parking lot? Maybe you were meeting them to sell a car, sign a document, or perhaps to interview a contractor. Do you remember what you were thinking? Will I get ripped off? Am I being scammed? What if they take my car for a test drive and never come back? Do they want to hurt me? Are they scoping out my house for a burglary?
A new business in Westminster hopes to drastically reduce these concerns. The Safer Spot is located on the west side of the Westminster Mall in the Harlan Crossing Shopping center. For $15 to $30, most folks can use The Safer Spot as a meeting place to conduct these types of transactions by simply agreeing to meet the other party at a given time.
The business was created by Dan Prochoda, a 15-year police veteran who quit his job to start the business after realizing his own concerns when conducting these types of personal interactions. In order to reduce the likelihood of fraud or criminal activity, The Safer Spot offers common, semi-private, and private meeting rooms in a storefront setting that is monitored by surveillance cameras. Everyone who does business is also positively but confidentially identified. Your identity is not disclosed to the other party, but is kept by The Safer Spot so that if criminal or fraudulent activity occurs, the culprit's information can be released to the police and/or the Civil Courts for prosecution or litigation.
"I can't guarantee that I will wipe out fraud or totally prevent criminal activity from occurring, but I will do what I can to minimize it," says Dan. And that sounds like a better deal than meeting at home or in some parking lot...
