The second annual Golden Gallop: Race to Defeat Pancreatic Cancer is coming! On Sept. 8, people from the community of Golden and many others whose lives have been affected by pancreatic cancer will come together to walk, run and watch their kiddos race.
The new location, Splash Aquatic Park, offers some of Golden's most scenic views along with the ridiculously easy parking.
Registration begins at 7:15 a.m., with the 10K run starting at 8 a.m. The 5K run/walk will begin at 8:45, followed immediately with an awards ceremony at 9:30. Top finishers in each age group and event will be recognized.
The FunRun, a quick 1K, begins at 10. This is the perfect distance to challenge children of all ages, without overwhelming them. The event concludes with a raffle, where you have a chance to win a great prize.
After your run or walk, you can look forward to re-energizing with Advocare energy drinks, tasty burgers from Jack in the Box, and a massage - all complimentary from our great sponsors!
Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Despite this, it received just 1 percent of the National Cancer Institute $4.8 billion cancer research budget for 2006.
All proceeds from this event will benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, or PanCAN. It is with grassroots efforts such as the Golden Gallop, that PanCAN can continue to reach their ultimate goal, finding a cure for pancreatic cancer. PanCAN provides research grants to scientists studying this disease, while offering valuable education and inspiration to survivors and caregivers.
Build a tradition, enjoy Golden's splendor, and offer hope to defeat pancreatic cancer by joining us Sept. 8. At the very least, come for the burgers and massage! Registration is being taken now at
www.active.com and on race day. Learn more about our event at
