Golden Colorado is an unlikely place to find ancient Jewish wisdom, but thanks to Rabbi Levi Brackman, people are finding just that with a new class in Golden about the Jewish Bible and Judaism. Far from being a hub of Jewish life, Golden has never had a particularly strong Jewish presence.
"This is the start of a concerted effort to build a permanent Jewish presence in Golden," explained Rabbi Brackman. "By further developing the Jewish community here, I believe we can expand the footprint of Judaism on Golden and foster a greater sense of community."
Perfect for those wishing to broaden their knowledge of Judaism, this interactive class shows how spirituality and the Bible can bring meaning to people's lives.
"It was an eye opener for me especially," stated Missy Patten, a resident of Golden. "Hearing different perspectives and where everything comes from and why it's still practiced today was very interesting for me. It is a welcoming place for anyone. I'm looking forward to next week."
The class, geared to those who want to fill in the gaps of their knowledge of Judaism, is held each Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. and taught by Judaism in the Foothills executive director Rabbi Levi Brackman. Far from your typical pulpit sermon, Rabbi Brackman presents religion through the eyes of Kabbalah, the source of Jewish mysticism, and gives the participants meaningful ideas to integrate and apply to their own lives.
Rabbi Levi Brackman is also the author of the upcoming book entitled, "Jewish Wisdom for Business Success: Lessons from the Torah and Other Ancient Texts" to be published in September of this year by AMACOM.
This class is the first of many to be given in Golden, Colorado in an attempt to meaningfully transform Jewish life in Golden and the surrounding areas.
"I don't know that there have ever been weekly Torah classes in Golden and this is the start of something", said Herb Rubenstein, a participant in the class on Wednesday night. "I think that this will be great."
The class is open to the public and is hosted every Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Scott & Missy Patten 547 Crawford St, Golden 80401. Light refreshments will be served.
