Elks celebrate Flag Day in Idaho Springs
Contributed by: Wayne Rogers on 6/14/2008

On June 14 the Central Northwest District held it's Flag Day Ceremony at Idaho Springs at 11a.m.

It was a beautiful day and well attended. The colors were presented by an Honor Guard from Buckley Air Base.

The Exalted Rulers performed the Elks Ceremony and a VFW Post and Elks from Northglenn and Idaho Springs presented the Historic Flags. The American Legion Post from Evergreen presented the POW Rememberance, and the Northglenn Elks performed the Flag Retirement Ceremony.

The John Phillips Sousa band played during the ceremonies and afterwards we all had a nice lunch at Idaho Springs Lodge and then watched the rededication of their cornerstone which had a time capsule removed back in Oct. after 100 years and today put a new capsule in to be removed in another 100 years.

John Amen Grand Lodge Judiciary Committee Member, 1st Vice President Ray Ross, 2nd Vice President George Uhland, 3rd Vice President Jerry Hilzer of the Colorado Elks Association and Past State Presidents Bob Schmitz, Gunter Lipman, and Skip Rogers were in attendance.

Golden's Exalted Ruler John Schwenke was unable to attend so his place was taken by Ron Beach Leading Knight as Esquire for the Flag ceremony.
