A fantastic Fourth of July in Golden
Contributed by: Ed Dorsey on 7/11/2008

The Golden Lions Club annual 4th of July festival was the biggest show around as thousands showed up at Lions Park to spend the day listening to good music, watching the kids on the free rides and enjoying the food, beverages and patriotic merchandise for sale.

The day was sunny and warm and the evening nice and cool for the fantastic fireworks when the crowd grew even larger. And what a show it was! Many commented that it was the best display they saw in quite a while and also how much they enjoyed the traditional community based celebration of Independence Day.

Lions in their gold vests sold raffle tickets all day and over 270 prizes winners were announced throughout the day. The grand prizewinner of $1000 was in the crowd and picked up the cash just before the fireworks.

The Lions Club funds this celebration mainly through the sale of raffle tickets within the community. As such, we wish to thank all of the area merchants and residents who donated prizes, our fellow residents, who bought the tickets over the past 6 weeks and those organizations who provided financial support to help pay some of the celebration's cost.

We are thankful to the City of Golden for their support with special thanks to the City Police Department, Fire Department and Parks and Recreation Department for their hard work during the event. With their help the day was a success. Golden is well known for its celebration of the Fourth and the Golden Lions Club expects to continue this tradition well into the future.
