Pangea Day in Golden
Contributed by: Kathee Jones on 5/5/2008

Pangea Day is May 10 and will involve over 1,000 "events" of communities of people getting together to watch the same specially selected films from around the world, chosen based on their ability to inspire, transform, and help us see the world through another person's eyes.

It's hoped that this will be a common global experience and there will be worldwide dialogue surrounding it and so this will be an opportunity to strengthen tolerance and compassion while uniting millions of people to build a better future. Colorado School of Mines will have one of these Friends of Pangea Day sites available for the community to meet and share the experience of these films together. http://www.pangeaday.org/eventGuide.php

You are invited to be a part of a Global Experience...

On May 10th, people around the world will come together and share a common experience: watching films made by the world for the world.

What is Pangea Day?

In 2006, filmmaker Jehane Noujaim won the TED Prize, an annual award granted at the TED Conference, which honors three individuals who have the potential to change the world. She was granted $100,000 and -- more important -- a wish to change the world. She wished to create a day in which the world came together through film, using that media to strengthen tolerance and compassion in hope of building a better future. Pangea Day grew out of that wish.

On May 10 Pangea Day sites in Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro will be linked live to produce a program of powerful films, visionary speakers, and uplifting music. 24 short films have been selected from an international competition that generated more than 2,500 submissions from 100+ countries.

They were chosen based on their ability to inspire, transform, and help us see the world through another person's eyes. The program will be broadcast live to the world through the Internet, television, digital cinemas, and mobile phones. It will be the first "global campfire", harnessing the power of new technologies to bring people together through film.

YOU are enthusiastically invited to a local Friends of pangea day broadcast, a free event for the CSM/Golden/Applewood/West Denver community:
