Paprika spices up dance for kids
Contributed by: Karen Groves/YourHub.com on 7/9/2008

Kaila Gidley greeted her students with hands clasped together and a smile.

The slender 32-year-old dance instructor moved to Golden a year ago from Montana, where she earned her bachelor's degree in dance from the University of Montana.

There, she held a one-year-appointment at the University of Montana teaching coursework for the Dance in Education program and is now working toward a certification as a personal trainer and sports nutritionist.

After the move to Golden, she said, "I was really looking for some place to teach. "I wanted a place for choreography, personal development and dancing."

She said she went to five locations with potential.

"I was starting to get depressed, but then walked into Paprika (a clothing store at 1112 Washington Ave., Golden) one day and noticed the dance floor in back."

After talking to the owners of Tribal Arts, Elizabeth and her husband Ocean Ostteen, Gidley's mood brightened.

Now, she teaches several classes a week from contemporary dance for adults to dance technique for kids from 6 to 12.

Classes are six-week sessions and are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and are for adults and boys and girls ages 6 to 12.

Ocean and Elizabeth also own a belly dancing studio in Evergreen called Marrakech. Elizabeth said they bring special shows into town with the next one on July 19 which will be at the Buffalo Rose.

For information on class schedules, call 303-862-5897 or e-mail kailajay@comcast.net.

Marrakech specializes in belly dancing and presens shows around town like the Summertime Sideshow Circus scheduled for July 19-20 in Golden. Dance studios are located within the store spaces for Paprika in Golden and Marrakech in downtown Evergreen.
