In-custody death investigation at Jeffco jail
On June 12 an adult male was found hanging in a holding cell at the Jefferson County Detention Facility. A sheriff's deputy discovered the male during a walk-through check of the booking area where the inmate was being temporarily held. Sheriff's deputies immediately began administering CPR and called for additional medical assistance into the module. The male was transported to St. Anthony's Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:22 a.m.
The 47-year old male had been arrested nearly three hours earlier by Jefferson County for a misdemeanor traffic warrant. The identity of the inmate is being withheld until next of kin have been notified.
The death is currently under investigation by the Sheriff's Office; all indications are that the male died of an apparent suicide. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office will determine the exact cause and manner of death at the completion of their investigation.
