Jeffco school board member pleads guilty
Contributed by: Pam Russell on 7/8/2008

A Jefferson County school board member was in court today and pled guilty to Third Degree Assault, a class one misdemeanor. Vincent Ali Chowdhury, 48, of Littleton, was arrested by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department on June 17 after responding to a call from Chowdhury's wife about a family disturbance.

Chowdhury had arrived home earlier that evening and honked the horn for his wife or daughter to open the garage door for him. According to court records he was in the driveway for a few minutes and when he got inside he was upset with his wife and daughter for making him wait. His wife said that she and her daughter apologized to him, but he began slapping their 16-year-old daughter in the face.

Chowdhury was also charged with a class three misdemeanor Harassment. As a condition of bond in the assault charge there was a restraining order in place preventing Chowdhury from contacting his daughter or wife. Later in the day following the incident, Chowdhury sent two emails to his wife which was in violation of the restraining order. He was written a summons for that violation. Both the Harassment charge and the Violation of a Restraining Order charge were dismissed today.

Immediately following the entry of the guilty plea, Chowdhury was given a supervised, one-year deferred sentence and ordered to complete anger management and parenting classes. If he successfully complies with the terms and conditions of his deferred judgment and sentence, his case will be dismissed at the end of one year. The protective order remains in place but at the request of his wife and daughter, the Judge modified it to allow him and his wife to communicate by email.
