A fire destroyed a home at 1150 Terry St. in Golden on Oct. 8. The Augenstine family was not injured according to reports, but the house was destroyed.
According to Pleasant View Battalion Chief
Ryan Holland, the Pleasant View Fire Department was the first to respond. "We had the fire under control within 15 minutes. Although we had to wait for Xcel to come and clamp off the gas line, it didn't delay our efforts. By the time we got there the house was a total loss, the roof was collapsed and the back walls blown out on the west and south sides. it was a fairly big fire. We were there for nine hours."
Holland said, "When we turned out of our station we initially called for assistance from Golden, but when we saw the flames and smoke, we knew we had something big and called West Metro Fire Rescue as well."
Pleasant View Fire Department was on the scene with 16 people and three trucks, Golden came with two trucks and nine people and West Metro was there with two trucks and roughly eight people. A district chief from West Metro arrived as well as a battalion chief from Golden.
Holland said no one was home except for the family dog. "He got out while we were there with singed fur."
Holland said, "Because it is still under investigation, we cannot divulge the cause, but it appears it was accidental. Reportedly a contractor was excavating and hit a tree stump, but the exact cause has not yet been determined.
