Hats off to women

WaterStone Community Church, located at 5890 South Alkire Street (C-470 and Bowles), Littleton, celebrates women each year in the springtime by hosting a special event. This year was no exception.

The Spring Fling was held on May 10. The theme was "Hats!" Jean Hatfield, the Special Events Coordinator of Women's Ministries, agrees with the person who said that "If a woman rebels against high-heeled shoes, she should take care to do it in a very smart hat."

The ladies grabbed their best hats and checked their worries at the door. A photographer was available to take photos of mothers, daughters, friends, and neighbors at this intergenerational affair.

After a salad luncheon, the women known as The MadHatters -- the trio of Elsa Wolff,Cheri Seeton (Golden) and Sunny Marie Hackman -- entertained the women with singing, stories, jokes and a balloon trick.

Elsa Wolff, as Minnie Pearl, the Queen of the Grand Ole Opry, opened and closed the show. Cheri Seeton and Sunny Marie Hackman added hat-themed variety vignettes.

The three women left the group with a smile on their faces and a song in their hearts and the Belizian Proverb: "Remember, don't hang your hat higher than you can reach."

After the show, Cheri Seeton, a balloon artist, made balloon sculptures for the children.

Special events like the Spring Fling and the Christmas Tea offer a way for church women to connect and the community to be introduced to large churches in the area.
