Richard Loya sets another record for Bonfils
Richard Loya, of Lakewood, Colo., is not unfamiliar with the blood donation process. Nearly four years ago Loya reached his 50-gallon donation milestone at Bonfils' Denver West Community Donor Center, located at 13952 Denver West Parkway in Golden, Colo., the same donation center he will visit for his 60-gallon donation on Monday, July 21 beginning at 7 a.m.
Meeting one of the many recipients of his blood donations face-to-face back in 2004 amplified Loya's altruistic nature. Yet does not take a tragedy or life-altering event to persuade Loya to donate; he does so out of the kindness of his heart and desire to save and enhance lives. Loya, who is only the third Bonfils' donor to reach the 60-gallon milestone, is an inspiration to the newer generation of donors and hopes to get them to roll up their sleeves and help the cause.
Loya's donation, along with others, is greatly appreciated during the summer months when the number of blood donations can drop by as much as 20 percent yet the need increases due accidents, scheduled surgeries and medical treatments. Thanks to Loya's dedication to blood donation for Bonfils' he will receive the limited edition Bonfils' baseball hat. Any donor can receive this gift by giving blood now through Sept. 6 at any of Bonfils' nine community centers or at one of as many as 13 mobile blood drives held each day. Schedule an appointment to donate blood today by calling 303.363.2300 or 800.365.0006, opt. 2 or by scheduling online at www.bonfils.org.
Bonfils Blood Center celebrates 65 years of saving lives through its ongoing stewardship of the community blood supply and the instrumental role it continues to play in the lives of patients in need throughout Colorado and beyond. Bonfils Blood Center supplies blood to more than 200 healthcare facilities and needs to collect more than 4,000 blood donations weekly to meet the needs of the community and to be prepared for any unexpected events. For information about Bonfils Blood Center please call 303.366.2000 or visit www.bonfils.org.
