The Al Jazeera English network will broadcast from the Buffalo Rose Saloon, 1119 Washington Ave., Golden, Aug. 27 during the Democratic National Convention, according to Golden public information officer
Sabrina D'Agosta,
D'Agosta said, "Many people only know of Al Jazeera as the channel where
Osama bin Laden sends his tapes, but they are a legitimate news source in a part of the world that doesn't always get international news."
The network reaches 120 million households in 80 different countries, and although not available in the United States, D'Agosta said the network is working toward that goal.
The network approached the city in their search to find a typical American locale. When they visited Golden to scout locations, they chose the Buffalo Rose because of its patio view of South Table Mountain.
D'Agosta said the network would also broadcast from the home of Golden city manager
Mike Bestor, during a private barbecue with friends and neighbors Aug. 28.
D'Agosta said, " We see this as an opportunity to reach out and send a positive message about democracy to the world and gain exposure for the city of Golden."
