The former Hall of Justice is being demolished.
According to Chris Cocallas, campus architect and director of Capital Planning and Construction, the site is part of the planned Earth Energy Institute.
"No immediate construction is planned, the lot will be seeded with grass for now," said Cocallas.
Demolition should be complete within about five weeks.
The contractor is Firoe and Sons. Abatement by LVI
The cost is $2.8 million including the asbestos abatement, which has now been removed.
Most recently the building was used for office, storage and classroom space.
Records in the Golden Younger Structures Inventory show the building was erected in 1964 at 1700 Arapahoe St. It is considered within the Jefferson County Centennial Sites classification.
