Cultural Council board member sought
Contributed by: Jefferson County on 1/29/2008

The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants from northern Jefferson County to fill a vacancy on the County Cultural Council.

The Cultural Council serves as the advisory body to the Board of County Commissioners as they make their recommendations for the distribution of Tier III funds generated by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD).

These funds are the result of a 0.1percent sales tax, which was voted in by the taxpayers in 1988, 1996 and again in 2004. The County Cultural Council reviews applications and interviews eligible cultural organizations during a five month period each year.

The SCFD funds support cultural facilities whose primary purpose is to enlighten and entertain the public through art, music, theatre, dance, zoology, botany, natural history and cultural history.

The seat currently open on the seven-member council must be filled by someone living in Commissioner District 1, which covers northern Jefferson County including portions of the cities of Westminster, Arvada, Wheat Ridge and Golden, and extends into the mountains including Coal Creek and Golden Gate Canyons.

The Board of County Commissioners appoints more than 300 citizens to serve on boards and commissions that study issues in-depth, oversee and make recommendations regarding specific county functions, and assist in governing Jefferson County.

A list of all county boards and commissions, information and application forms are available on the county web site at http.www.jeffco.us. To access, click on Board of County Commissioners, then Boards and Commissions. Or call the Commissioners' Office at 303-271-8525 for information and application forms.
