Jeffco Action Center reports that volunteer support grew over last year with an additional 700 volunteers donating their time to help Jefferson County's poor, working poor and homeless.
Volunteers throughout the metro area came to the Action Center to donate more than 11,000 additional hours. The total dollar amount of hours donated this year equates to $1,260,000, according to the Independent Sector that states volunteer time is equal to $20.25/hour.
"So much of what we accomplish at the Action Center is the result of the efforts of our remarkable volunteers," said Mag Strittmatter, Jeffco Action Center Executive Director. "Without their tireless work, we could not touch the lives of thousands in our county each year. Volunteerism is such an American institution that speaks so clearly of the care and compassion
of a community
for its community."
This new surge of community service has been well timed for the Action Center that just finished an incredible 13th month of double-digit increases of services provided. Over the summer alone, Jeffco Action Center added more than 4,000 first-time clients. They also witnessed a 15 percent increase in their school supply distribution and are facing a shortage in their personal care items that could close that program.
It is through volunteer and community support that Jeffco Action Center is a place where action matters.
