As I listen to and read the election news every day, I am reminded of something I wrote back in 2005 and shared with Teller County residents and other folks who live in Colorado and throughout these United States. What I wrote about, back then (see below), was a story/poem about our American flag and an old man who was defending it -- one more time. But, this time, all he had to defend it with was an old, rusty shotgun with one shot in it.
The story tells about anold man with a gun who had slowly and painfully made his way to the place where it had been said that someonewas threateningto burn the American flag. When he got there, he said to the young man who was about to burn it,"I got this bum leg that I still drag fighting for this same old flag ... There is but one shot in this old gun, so now it's time to decide which one ... which one of you will follow our lead to stand and die for what you believe? For as sure as there is a rising sun, you'll burn in Hell 'fore this flag burns, son."
These are very troubling times for we the logical and reasonable voters in Teller County, Colorado, and throughout America. Midst these troubling times, we are trying to decide
who we should choose to be our next President. Should we choose someone (
Barack Obama) whose plan for us certainly appears to be more than a little Marxist, i.e., socialistic at its best, and fascist at its worst? Or should we choose someone (
John McCain) whose plan for us, while not Marxist, doesn't seem to be everything that intelligent and rational Americans want and need to return our country to its former proud and respected Constitutional Federal Republic?
Now I'm not an old man with a rusty old shotgun. I am just one woman, among many such men and women, whoalways stand ready to defendwhat we believe. And what we believe is that Barack Obama, if elected, would turn our country away from that which our Founding Fathers intended, i.e., a Constitutional Federal Republic, and toward Socialism. And beyond that, given the direction Teller County, Colorado, and our country already seem to be going, toward its almost inevitable result, fascism.
Will intelligent and rational Coloradans, and folks just like us throughout our countrylet that happen? If not, what will they do to stop it? One way is to vote for someone other thanBarack Obama. But what will intelligent and rational Americans do if Barack Obama is elected anyway by those who would purposefully destroy our Constitutional Federal Republic for their own personal gain?
Throughout American history, there has always been a Plan "B" for such situations. And the reasoning behind those plans -- down through the years -- was passed on to the next generations by many old men who had also defended our flag using their versions of that "old, rusty shotgun".
