Just to recap the good news: Petitioners seeking to recall six of seven members of Golden City Council, including the Mayor, failed to submit the necessary signatures on the day of their deadline.

The citizens of Golden joined together in a broad-based show of support for our current council and to protect Golden from this attempt to undermine our political process. While the right to recall is a legitimate tool within our democratic toolbox for addressing significant wrongdoing or criminal behavior, it is not intended to punish officials with whom we disagree or to burden the community with the expense and distraction of endless campaigning.

Citizens for Golden organized opposition to the recall attempt and used the principles of good community organizing to let our community know about what was happening and to help volunteers take the action needed in response to the recall petitions. We raised funds, created various pieces of literature to inform voters, wrote letters to the local media, spoke up in public forums to support our council, knocked on doors and made phone calls to our neighbors ... and yes, entered data from all of those contacts.

However, we were successful in our efforts because the community banded together. In unison, we let it be known that our community addresses its differences through open and honest dialogue, respect for diverse points of view, and working together to tackle the challenges of the future. We love Golden, and we are strongest when we work together to address our disagreements.
