Respecting everyone in Golden

At the January 8th Golden City Council meeting public comments (http://goldenco.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=2&clip_id=71) I said that I respect all the members of our community and that I'd be reaching out to those supporting the recall. I was hopeful that one on one conversations would help some of those who filed recall petitions find another means of addressing complaints they had. I spoke about this philosophy at length with our Citizens For Golden group, and decided that I needed to follow through on my commitment.

On Saturday January 24th, with my two young children (6 year old daughter and 8 year old son), I went to the house of an elder couple who had filed (with one other person) three of the six recall petitions. I asked to speak with the gentleman of the house, and found a very kind older man ready to greet me. I talked with him and asked if there were issues that could be solved by dialogue with the councilors or city instead of bringing a recall. He told me that we would have to speak with his wife, who was downstairs.

His daughter, who was in the room, then said that she and her mother were strong supporters of the recall. I asked if we could find a less divisive means to address any issues, and she told me that she did not think the recall was divisive, and asked me to leave.

I left shortly after that, but before I left, I shook hands with the gentleman, and thanked him for his time. He returned the hand shake warmly, and I have to say that I was glad I met him. I'll remain hopeful that we can help everyone in our community engage and address issues in a constructive manner, and become more positive about community involvement in Golden.
