Disasters happen: Are you ready?

From Katrina to the recent flooding that has hit the Midwest, many have been thinking about how ready they are if something like that should happen here.

As the Rocky Mountain News continues to write articles about the impending dangers of our dams, the pandemic flu, and other things, there haven't been many answers in these articles on how to prepare yourself.

If you would like to get a better understanding of what natural disasters could actually hit us here in the Denver metro area or you want a better understanding of our health department and First Responders, then CERT is the class for you. CERT stands for Citizen Emergency Response Training. It will teach you about disaster preparendess, natural hazards, disaster psychology, fire safety and suppression, disaster medical operations, and light search and rescue. The class ends with a disaster simulation exercise.

These courses are filled with information, hands on training, and taught by local first responders. We are sure you will enjoy learning about how to better prepare yourself and your family and also more information on what our First Responders do and what they are ready for.

There is no charge to attend the CERT courses. This session is being hosted by the Edgewater Police and Fire Departmentat 2401 Sheridan Blvd. and is open to the public. The class is held on four consecutive Saturdays, beginning April 26th to May 17th, from 0830 to 4pm.

We look forward to having you in this course with us. As space is limited, we do ask that you reserve your seat by calling 303-235-0502 or emailing clang@edgewaterpd.com. If these class times do not suit you, but you are interested in more information, please feel free to call us and find out about other opportunities in the Denver Metro area
