This is Jefferson County's posting on their Web site titled Beltway to Tomorrow - Northwest Corridor
A smooth-flowing transportation network allows motorists to get where they're going with minimum time and inconvenience. It improves quality of life, and saves time and stress for motorists and residents. It improves the environment and brings businesses to our community which provides jobs and a sustainable tax base for schools, local governments and open space.
A beltway around metropolitan Denver, in transportation plans for 40 years, is only 80 percent complete. Denver is the only major American city encircled by only three-quarters of a beltway.
The missing link is in northwestern Jefferson County. Portions of the beltway -- C-470, E-470 and the NW Parkway -- are now used daily by motorists. The missing link - from US 36 and Highway 128 in Broomfield to Highway 93 north of Golden -- affects the region's entire transportation network in many ways with the most significant impacts on Jefferson County.
Jefferson County is committed to providing an effective and well maintained transportation system. One of the areas of Jefferson County most in need of major transportation improvements is the northwest quadrant. The lack of the link to complete the beltway that already encircles the rest of the Denver metro area has forced traffic onto neighborhood streets not designed to handle it, increasing noise, pollution and risks to safety.
The county along with state officials and the mayors and city councils of many Jefferson County communities have been working for many years to complete the beltway while also making numerous other transportation improvements throughout the county.
Most recently, Jeffco has joined with the mayors of the City of Arvada and the City and County of Broomfield to build public awareness and find the necessary funding so this missing link in the metro beltway can be built.
