Feed More People began with a small group of people from the Golden area wanting to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the homeless in downtown Denver.
Members of Hillside Community Church and Golden Valley Life Church teamed up to provide a hot meal, and offer bibles, sandwiches, hygiene products, socks, blankets and other clothing, as well as prayers and emotional support.
Our first outing was December 3, 2006. We were overwhelmed by the number of cold and hungry people congregating inthe park. It was then that we knew this was not a once a year event!
Now Feed More People consists of a small group of people from the Golden area who go downtown once a month to provide physical, emtional, and spiritual support to the homeless community. Through donations we have been able to bless hungry people with food, clothing, and Bibles in Spanish and English.
Many members of the homeless community now recognize our group and we have developed relationships with them. Through these relationships, we hope to provide them with hope and to help meet needs they may have.
Here are a few examples of the people we have been able to help:
Larry
- Larry was an older gentleman sitting on the park bench with very wet cloth tennis shoes. He was shivering as we approached. We gave him some very warm winter boots and some food and a Bible. He was so thrilled you can not believe it. His smile would melt your heart.
Richard - Richard and his friend were very grateful for backpacks and some food. Each took a Bible as well. He was amazed that people would come all the way from Golden to bring them supplies and talk with them. He (as well as many others) asked if and when we would be back.
This fellow name is
Chris
. He was sleeping on a park bench and freezing. We gave him some winter boots and
Erik
set him up with a sleeping bag and a big backpack as well as some food, a Bible, and gloves. He was very grateful. He put on all the gear and clothes right away
Please visit our wesite at http://feedmorepeople.org for more pictures and heart warming stories. Thank you for considering us for this grant.
The $1,000 grant would be used to purchase the food, clothing, hygiene products, and Bibles we provide at our monthly events. We are excited to let more people from the Golden area know about Feed More People and to see how God will use us to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the homeless community in downtown Denver.
