WWII POW Loyal Rockies Fan
Contributed by: Linda Johnson Ortega on 7/5/2007

John Johnson Jr will turn 88 on July 19, 2007.

He never thought he would live so long. Especially when his unit was captured and he spent one year walking from prison camp to prison camp. He was an officer and was made to walk because they did not want him rescued.

It was an awful year for him, but he survived to raise a family of seven children in Golden with a heating and air-conditioning business. He has many friends in the community because of his involvement and humble personality. He has a great sense of humor and his laughter is infectious as many will agree.

Throughout the years, Johnson has been an avid sports fan, from the Denver Bears to the Rockies, which are his favorite team, because he is free to watch all of their games.

Familiar with all the players, he is ever ready to discuss each their talents. His optimism and generous heart offers encouragement to everyone; there is not a player on the team who needs improvement! According to him, they are a very talented and able group of young men.

He loves to go to the stadium and cheer for his boys just as he does in his living room at game time. If you happen to drop in during the game, come in, sit down and enjoy his generous hopitality!

It would be fitting tribute to a soldier who was willing to give his life for his country that he be gifted a suite to enjoy watching his Rockies play with 11 of his closest friends. He can be reached at 303-279-3249.
