Look it Up

I remember asking my parents how to spell things as I was growing up, and no matter how easy it would have been to just tell me they always said we have lots of dictionaries, go look it up.

Well I'm no great speller, nor a great writer, but I did learn a lot of words and how to use a dictionary. I managed to be the first in my family to go to college and get a degree and I credit most of it to the study habits I got at home, and the GI Bill which help me pay for it.

That's why I'm so proud to be part of the Golden Elks and our Youth Prgram. We have something going for students all the way from Elementary school thru high school. We host atheltic contest, essay contest, and scholarships, but the one program I really like helping with is the dictionary program where we provide personal dictionaries to all 3rd graders in the Golden area, ( we provide them to 6 schools in this area, the Lions and other groups provide them to the other schools). Yesterday we went to Kyffin Elementary and presented them with thier dictionaries, and it was gratifing to see how happy they were to get them, and several said that they were just like the ones their brothers or sisters had gotten in the past. We had to reshedule Welchester because of the snow but we will get them there as soon as we can. I want to thank Leonard McBroom, chairman of the Youth Program for all his work in getting the dictionaries and delivering them. If you think I've misspelled anything in this story , don't ask me, LOOK IT UP.
