There goes another one.
Apparently in the shadow of both the tragedy in Bailey and the Amish school, kids are finding it humorous to make threats and go to school with guns. Just recently a 13 year old fired an automatic rifle at his middle school...
http://www.denverpost.com/nationworld/ci_4468206
Honestly I am all for advocating good parenting procedures but I swear if my kid took a gun to school or pulled something of that magnitude I would be hard pressed not to knock the kid one.
"Where are the parents" is probably what everyone is saying, but there comes a point where a thirteen year old is conscious enough to know what he or she is doing.
Yes, I don't know where the funding will come from, but I definitely think that a system needs to be put in place of a "scared straight" program for kids that think this type of behavior is funny and will be tolerated.
Why not have these "troubled" teens and preteens spend an entire day with a family that lost someone in the Columbine massacre? Why not have them understand the sick and twisted things the Bailey shooter did to those girls in that school?
I am sick and tired of this politically correct method of raising our children.Eight years ago I was a 13-year old and I will say a mature one at that.
I knew the difference from right and wrong and knew if I did something I would be held accountable for my actions. Instead of pumping so many taxpayer dollars into the juvenile detention program, where repeat offenders check in like it's a hotel, why not try to educate these kids and make them see just how horrific their actions are?
But instead, the competent (and I use that term with a
huge
amount of sarcasm) leaders of this country decide to fix the problem. Noble, but what is the exact plan?
They are going to hold a huge summit... Wow, did you hear that Mr.
Harris
, Mr.
Klebold
? They are going to hold a huge summit to dissuade kids from shooting up their school!
So basically a bunch of figureheads are going to sit around a table, try to pass off their political agendas, and bipartisanship comes into play and nothing gets accomplished. So instead of sitting around talking, I believe some action should be taken. You are good at that Mr. President, I mean when Congress wanted to talk about invading Iraq you wanted to push forward without deliberation, so why not do the same thing here?
http://www.denverpost.com/ci_4469496
Perhaps maybe take some of the massive Iraq budget back and put it toward things within our own borders, to fix our problems at home. Wow!! What a concept, you mean our tax dollars can stay inside our country and benefit our children instead of an attempt to topple a "regime" that stood almost no chance of having the capability of attacking inside our borders?
What about fixing the education system that has slipped behind the rest of the world? What about fixing the higher education system so that families don't have to pay outrageous fees for tuition and books? Why not spend even a small fraction of the Iraq security budget on school security. I'm sure no 13-year-old is going to start shooting an AK-47 replica if a National Guardsman is stationed at the school.
No Child Left Behind, eh Mr. President? How is it that every social aspect that this country enjoyed including our rights has been utterly lost under your administration?
How you can go around saying that you are doing your part in helping the American public by giving tax breaks to the wealthy, sending America's young over to die in the Middle East, and then planning to hold a summit to try to fix the problem of school violence.
Here is my idea, why not shell out some of your secret service agents to schools across the country? They seem to have been doing a pretty good job ensuring your well being, pending that diabolic pretzel...
P.S. Again you never seem to put your money where your mouth is, Mr. Bush. You say you want to help prevent school violence, yet your administration attempted to cut $347 million in school-safety grants for states this year. Your actions speak louder than your lies Mr. President.
