Recent tragedies at schools have left us with voids and the recognition that existing crisis plans aren't sufficient to protect kids. A new idea of incorporating mental preparation/training at age-appropriate levels, for kids under an attack has inspired me to spread the word to other parents/cops/administrators.
The company teaching this is Response Options of Dallas. It was designed by SWAT experts who faced the helplessness in a school attack. It gives kids tools to help themselves when they can no longer rely on anyone else.
Reality-based training that simulates real-life violent confrontations. We live in an increasingly demanding, scary world and our local administrators have so far failed to admit a serious lapse in their security/crisis plan. Here, two of the worst school attacks took place.
Some parents/police are interested in this new training taught on the basics of a program developed by the USAF.
I need help to spread the word, to let others know how we can enable our kids not to remain paralyzed by fear, but to increase their self-confidence by a proven feasible method to try to save their life, when it is on the line.
Most parents don't know about Response Options. It was on FOXNews recently.
After Bailey, I as a mom know, that I want my kids to have more tools in a last resort situation. After contacting her, the response of the Superintendent here is the usual fairy tale with an ignorant, complacent attitude.
Most likely, she and other pencil-pushers will never have to face the barrel of a gun on their throne.
Please help us help our kids. It will happen again. Had the highschoolers in Bailey had mental training/preparation,
Emily might still be alive.
Please help us promote this. The loss of Emily is devastating and no student should ever be carried out of a school on a stretcher. No kid should ever have to endure what she did. I entered my son's high school with NO problem.
Once an intruder is inside, kids need more than what is in place. Schools are public, not prisons, that's why we need Response Options.
