First it was the Illuminati.
Then it was the Tripartite Commission and the Elders of Zion.
Now it's 3GL taking over the world, one town at a time.
To believe the
Voice of Golden, our town is controlled by these people and it's a terrible place as a result.
Oh wait. It's not. I love this town, having lived here 10 years. There's a strong sense of community, nice parks, lovely art, wonderful family-oriented events all year long . . . I can't think of any other place in Colorado I'd rather live.
If you're new to Golden, let me fill you in.
The VOG is a fish wrap (I won't give it the legitimacy that "newspaper" implies) published by a woman with a strong vendetta against several city officials.
Although it recently has contained articles about safety and emergency preparedness, actual news is not the raison d'etre of the VOG. The rest is innuendo and flat-out falsehoods meant to smear and defeat her opponents. If the VOG states that the sun rises in the morning, look out the window for yourself.
She has manipulated brand-new residents into running for office, even doing all the petitions and paperwork. Because of the VOG, they sometimes get elected.
But when they don't obey her desires, she drops her support and leaves them to fend for themselves. She has paid others to pursue lawsuits against the city as her proxy; these suits have cost the city hundreds of thousands of our tax dollars, especially since she loves to pursue appeals.
A current city councilmember,
Mary Weaver, is now facing ethics charges for accepting $8,600 from her to pursue a costly and frivolous suit.
She makes the 3GL sound like a secret cabal trying to destroy our town for the last 20 years. If they have the power to do that, why isn't our city a cesspool by now? It's because they aren't a secret cabal, and they are involved in many of the civic benefits we all enjoy.
What will happen if she gets her way and gets a majority of the City Council elected and in her debt?
The city will be controlled by one vindictive, manipulative woman with her own agenda. The City Manager, City Attorney, and the head of Public Works will be fired. These individuals currently make a significant amount less than their counterparts in other local towns, so anyone who replaces them will cost a lot more.
Madame Vendetta will call the shots. Want to see the city go to H**l in a handbasket? Read the VOG without analysis and follow her endorsements like sheep.
But if you love this town, do what I do. See who she's endorsing, and vote for someone else - especially whoever who has lived in Golden the longest and who has the strongest involvement with this town.
