Suite seat for a Paralyzed Vet
Contributed by: angela wheaton on 11/30/2005

Editor's note: We asked readers to tell us why they deserved to win a suite for 16 people at a Colorado Avalanche game. Here is what one reader wrote:

My husband Tom Wheaton is a paralyzed veteran of the US Navy and is one of the biggest hockey fans I know.  He even taught our son to yell "hockey, hockey, hockey" before he was 18 months old! Tom grew up in Minnesota playing hockey with his two brothers, Mike and Joel.  A few years after Tom's accident he decided the long winters of Minnesota weren't for him and his wheelchair, he moved to Colorado.  Soon his brothers followed and so did their love of hockey.  No longer able to play regular hockey, Tom now enjoys  sled hockey with Mike, who is also in a wheelchair from MS.  Every year the brothers celebrate Joel's birthday January 3rd, by attending an Avalanche hockey game together.  Over the past couple of years the price of preferred handicap seats have led them to college games.  Winning a suite would enable Tom and his brothers to attend an Aves game together and invite family and friends to celebrate with them for the first time! He could even bring our son to cheer on the team! "Hockey, hockey, hockey"!
