Colorado School of Mines' Marc Schiechl has earned Daktronics NCAA Division II Second Team All-Southwest Region honors, as announced today by the Daktronics Southwest Region Coordinator.

A 6'3", 220-lb. redshirt freshman defensive end from Lakewood, Colo. (Bear Creek High School), Schiechl is currently ranked second in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and third in the nation (tied) in sacks with 13.0. Selected as the 2007 RMAC Defensive Freshman of the Year, Schiechl (45 total tackles) is ranked first on the team and second in the RMAC with 16.5 tackles for a loss.

Schiechl, who garnered Second Team All-RMAC recognition in 2007, established a new individual single-game school record with 4.0 sacks in the Orediggers' 28-0 shutout victory at New Mexico Highlands University on October 6th.

Colorado School of Mines (7-4 overall) will face the Western Oregon University Wolves (8-2 overall) in the 22nd Annual Dixie Rotary Bowl this Saturday, December 1st, in St. George, Utah. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m. (Mountain Standard Time) at Hansen Stadium on the Dixie State College campus.

The Dixie Rotary Bowl is scheduled to be broadcast LIVE on the Internet by KPJC 1220 AM out of Salem, Ore. Please visit the CSM football webpage at http://athletics.mines.edu/Sports/Football/index.htm to access KPJC's streaming online audio broadcast on December 1st.

The Orediggers went 6-2 in the RMAC this fall and secured their sixth winning season in the past seven years. The 2007 Dixie Rotary Bowl marks the second time in four years that the Colorado School of Mines football team has advanced into the post-season, and the third time in program history that the Orediggers have played in a post-season bowl game.
