Pape garners First Team All-RMAC East Division recognition
Three players from Colorado School of Mines have been named to the 2007-08 All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's basketball teams, on Feb. 27 by the RMAC.
Kyle Pape, a 6'0", 190-lb. junior guard from Honolulu, Hawaii (Iolani High School), was a unanimous selection to the First Team All-RMAC East Division squad. The only Oredigger to start all 29 games, Pape concluded the 2007-08 regular season ranked first on the team and second in the RMAC in scoring at 20.7 ppg.
For the season, Pape (3.0 rpg) shot .456 from the field, including .362 (54-of-149) from three-point range, and finished with 60 assists and a team-most 24 steals. Pape, who reached the 20-point plateau in 21 of 29 games this year, was also named to the 2007-08 Pre-Season All-RMAC team.
The owner of double-digit scoring totals in 27 of 29 games this winter, Pape recorded a career-high 37 points on January 26th at Nebraska - Kearney. Pape also established or tied career-best numbers in rebounds (eight), assists (seven) and steals (five) this winter.
During the 2007-08 regular season, Pape also led the RMAC in points scored (601), free throws attempted (155) and free throws made (155) while finishing second and third in the conference, respectively, in field goals made (tied - 196) and free throw percentage (.891).
A Second Team All-RMAC East Division selection as a sophomore in 2006-07, Pape has started 82 of the 83 games in which he has played at Mines and is averaging 16.3 ppg throughout his collegiate career. Following his first season at Mines in 2005-06, Pape garnered RMAC Freshman of the Year, RMAC Shootout All-Tournament and Division II Bulletin All-Freshman Team accolades. Pape is majoring in Civil Engineering at Mines.
Ben Mohr, a 6'4", 205-lb. senior forward from Colorado Springs, Colo. (Palmer High School), was named Second Team All-RMAC East Division. Mohr, who averaged a team-second-best 14.0 ppg (16th in the RMAC), led the Orediggers and finished fourth in the RMAC in rebounding (9.0 rpg) during the 2007-08 regular season. Mohr led CSM and finished second in the RMAC in field goal percentage (.644) this season, going 132-of-205 from the field.
Mohr, who compiled 20 steals and started all 24 games in which he played, also led the Orediggers in blocked shots (tied - 12) this winter. Mohr also finished third in the RMAC in offensive (2.92 rpg) and defensive (6.08 rpg) rebounding during his final season in an Oredigger uniform.
Selected as the RMAC Freshman of the Year in 2004-05, Mohr also finished fourth in the RMAC in assists (100), assists per game (4.17) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.72) during the 2007-08 regular season. Recognized on the CSM Dean's List throughout his collegiate career, Mohr is a three-time Academic All-RMAC performer in the classroom. Mohr is majoring in Chemistry at CSM.
A 6'5", 210-lb. senior forward who hails from Brush, Colo. (Brush High School),
Chad Friehauf earned Honorable Mention All-RMAC East Division recognition.
Friehauf, who lettered as a redshirt freshman on the CSM men's basketball team in 2002-03, rejoined the Orediggers at the beginning of the 2008 spring semester when he returned to school to pursue a second undergraduate degree (Economics and Business).
Friehauf, who started 18 of the 20 games in which he played and recorded a career-high 22 points in the final game of his collegiate career (February 23rd at Colorado Christian University), shot .456 (72-of-158) from the field and finished second on the team in rebounding (5.3 rpg) this season. The owner of 33 assists, seven blocked shots and 13 steals in 2007-08,
Friehauf also finished third on the squad in scoring (10.0 ppg). The most prolific quarterback in the history of Mines football, Friehauf won the Harlon Hill Trophy as the top player in all of NCAA Division II football following his senior season in 2004. Friehauf guided Mines to an 11-0 record, the RMAC Championship and CSM's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II football playoffs during the 2004 campaign. In addition to winning the Harlon Hill Trophy his senior season, Friehauf earned RMAC Offensive Player of the Year, First Team All-RMAC, Colorado Male Athlete of the Year and NFF - Colorado Chapter Player of the Year honors. Friehauf also garnered First Team All-American accolades from the AFCA, d2football.com, dopke.com and Don Hansen's National Football Gazette. A Second Team selection on the Associated Press Little All-American team in 2004, Friehauf signed a free agent contract with the NFL's Denver Broncos in the summer of 2005. Friehauf earned his first undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from Mines in 2005.
With their 15-14 overall record (8-11 RMAC) in 2007-08, the Orediggers reached the 15-victory plateau for the second time in the past three seasons.
