Dalton tabbed Pre-Season East Division Player of the Year

The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team has been picked to win the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) East Division in the 2009-10 Pre-Season Coaches Poll released this morning. Emily Dalton was named Pre-Season East Division Player of the Year and was a unanimous Pre-Season First Team All-RMAC and First Team All-East Division selection.

The Oredigger women, who were picked to finish second overall in the RMAC, received one first place. CSM posted a record of 19-11 overall and 14-5 in conference play during the 2008-09 season earning a share of the RMAC East Division title. Mines advanced to the 2009 RMAC Tournament Championship against CSU-Pueblo.

Dalton, a 5-11 senior forward from Golden, Colo. (Arvada West H.S.), earned First Team All-East Division accolades as a junior during the 2008-09 season. Dalton, who started all 30 games, led the squad and ranked 16th in the RMAC in scoring (13.0 ppg). Dalton finished the season ranked sixth in the conference in free throw percentage (.809), ninth in field goal percentage (.482) and 20th in rebounding (5.3 rpg).

As a sophomore during the 2007-08 season, Dalton led CSM and ranked 10th in the RMAC in scoring (13.9 ppg) as she started all 29 games. Dalton also ranked first on the team in field goal percentage (.487) and total rebounds (169). A Second Team All-East Division selection, Dalton ranked in the top 20 in the conference in both field goal percentage (13th) and rebounding (20th, 5.8 rpg).

In her first season, Dalton played in all 28 games (25 starts) and ranked second on the team in scoring (9.7 ppg). Dalton shot 52.7 percent from the floor and 77.8 % from the free throw line. Dalton finished her 2006-07 campaign ranked third on the squad in rebounds per game (4.9), assists (31) and steals (27).

The Orediggers will host Colorado College in exhibition play Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. at Lockridge Arena. CSM begins the 2009-10 season at the Super 8 Tipoff Classic hosted by Northern State University on Nov. 15 and Nov. 16. The Orediggers return home on Nov. 21 to take on Hawai'i Pacific at 2 p.m.
