On perhaps the most difficult course of the season Golden High's Rachel Hebberd qualified for the State Cross-Country meet yesterday at D'Evelyn. Freshman Hebberd finished the 3.1 mile course in 11 th place with a time of 20 minutes 36 seconds. The course at D'Evelyn school includes the steepest and longest hill climb and descent that the runners face all year, and it comes in the last half mile of the race. The Golden High boys and girls teams also ran well, finishing 8 th and 6 th at the meet, respectively, with many posting personal best times, but finished out of the top 4 needed to qualify for state as a team.
The cross-country season formally ends for GoldenHigh School after the state meet. In preparation for the 2007 season, the team will begin informal workouts next summer followed by formal practice beginning about one week prior to the start of school.Incoming freshmen are welcome to join in these informal workouts next summer.
