DENVER -- Mullen's tenacious defense forced the Golden girls basketball team into 32 turnovers as the Demons fell 52-32 in the Class 4A state quarterfinal game March 4 at Metro State College.
The Mustangs had an 11-2 lead after the first period and never let up. Golden's turnovers led to a 26-shot advantage (51-25) for Mullen.
Amber Nelson and Blakelee Midyett each scored eight points for Golden (18-8).
Carrie Wagner led Mullen (23-2) with 14 points, while Jenna Erdle added 12.
The Mustangs will face Greeley West in the state semifinal on March 8 at the Coors Event Center in Boulder.
