Broomfield, Colo. -(Story assistance provided by Dave Ludwig) The Rocky Mountain Rage hockey club today announced a partnership with the
Ice Centre at the Westminster Promenade for the inaugural 2006-07 season. The Rage will use this facility for all on-ice practices when the Broomfield Event Center is in use for other events.
"We're excited to have the team here. The Rage offers good, affordable, family entertainment and it is good for youth programs in the area to see that level of hockey," said
Bob Bebber, general manager of the Ice Centre. "The Denver Metro Area hasn't seen much of the Central Hockey League other than the (Colorado) Eagles up north, so I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised by the high quality of play in the CHL."
The Ice Centre (located off of Highway 36 and Church Ranch Road) is the largest municipally owned skating facility in the country with three ice surfaces. In addition to becoming the official practice facility for the Rage, the Ice Centre serves many other needs for the city of Westminster and the surrounding area. The Ice Centre has one of the largest adult hockey leagues in the country with over 13 competitive leagues to choose from ranging from beginner to elite levels with a total of over 1600 players.
The Ice Centre boasts one of the best youth leagues in the country with close to 800 players in their in-house and competitive travel programs. The Hyland Hills Jaguars is a complete program for players from ages four through 17 play all of their home games at the Ice Centre. They are a sanctioned member of USA Hockey and the Colorado Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA).
The Ice Centre also offers freestyle, power-skating, off-ice ballet and conditioning, precision team training and moves in the field. The Ice Centre is also home to the Rocky Mountain Figure Skating Club, a volunteer-run organization and member of the United States Figure Skating Association. Over the years they have had 12 national champions in free skate and the synchronized skating teams qualify to compete in the U.S. National Synchronized Skating Championships annually.
The Rage is slated to begin its inaugural season October 20 in a road game against the Colorado Eagles. The Rocky Mountain Rage will play its home-opener November 10 at the new, state-of-the-art Broomfield Event Center. The Rage is one of two expansion teams in the Central Hockey League's 17-team field. The Rage will join the Eagles, Oklahoma City Blazers and Wichita Thunder in the Northwest Division.
