On March 31, 2009 GRTA - Golden Rush Tennis Association formally became the first Golden Tennis Association in the City of Golden.As a 501 (c) (3)non-profit and an officially sanctioned tennis association under USTA -United States Tennis Association andCTA - Colorado Tennis Association - CTA, GRTA's inaugural spring season included a 4.0 men's team which ended its season ranked third in a field of 10 teams in the USTA Intermountain Western division.
During the 2009 summer flight GRTA played both a 4.0 men's team and a 3.5 men's team. Heading into the 2010 season GRTA plans to expand its team participation by including a 3.5 women's team and 7.5 mixed team.
Co-founder Mike Medina explains, "As our mission dedicated to the introduction and advancement of Tennis in the Golden Community, GRTA is looking for tennis lovers of all ages and genders to join the Association and help us build a tennis Mecca here in Golden".
In addition to GRTA's community initiatives, co-founders
Brant Lahnert, Mike Medina, Troy Lowrie and Andy Berg also coach the Golden High School Boys Tennis Team.Head Coach Troy Lowrie states, " This is our way of giving back to the youth in our community while building a tennis power house at Golden High School. With a regular season record of 8 wins and 3 losses, we are well on our way to making Golden High School a tennis program to be reckoned with".
Also on the Associations radar is initiative to build the first indoor tennis courts in Golden. "Not only will indoor courts help during bad weather days, indoor courts will also allow the Golden Community to play tennis year-around which in the long run will advance the quality of tennis coming out of Golden", says Brant Lahnert.
