Many of our clients are concerned with the damage this area sustained from last year’s hurricanes. A couple of weeks after hurricane Wilma hit I too was anxious and went to see “first-hand” how everything measured up and I can report that it is still a lovely destination!
I was surprised how nice the airport looked, just a little constructions here and there. On my way to the hotel the only damage I noticed were fallen palm trees between the jungle areas, the empty billboards, and debris of sand and stones on the side of the road.
It was amazing how great the resorts looked, brand new palapas everywhere, roofs fixed, debris gone, and happy travelers enjoying the beautiful beaches and swimming pools. The hotel staff worked around the clock to fix everything; and were still taking care of the small details and planting new vegetation in the gardens. Today, four months later, it can only be better!
The eye of hurricane Wilma lingered over Cancun for 72 hours, so needless to say the damage there was more extensive than in the south. Cancun continues to recover with hotels and restaurants opening weekly.
I was glad to have the chance to travel to this area so soon after the hurricane and be able to report that all is well. It’s still my favorite recommendation – just as beautiful as it ever was.
