Editorial staff

Fairlight Baer-Gutierrez, editor, all Denver metro hubs
On staff since 2005
baerf@yourhub.com
I am a Colorado native who has lived in communities gargantuan and small here and in California, Kansas, South Carolina and Sweden. Whether it's through sharing a Watergate salad or playing kubb under the midnight sun, I appreciate community. I have reported, edited and helped manage papers in Kansas and Colorado and can tell you I haven't found anything as special as YourHub.com. Say hi if you see me standing in line at a movie theater around town, attemping to run at Rocky Mountain Lake or Sloan's Lake, shopping at the Sunflower on 38th Avenue or, on a really fun night, playing bingo with my husband on South Federal. You can view my blog at http://denver.yourhub.com/~fairlight.

Eric J. Lubbers, managing editor, all Denver metro hubs
On staff since 2005
lubberse@yourhub.com
Capitol Hill is a far cry from a cornfield, but somehow, panhandlers and cool architecture feel as much like home as grain elevators and dairy cows. I was born and educated in Yuma, a town of roughly 3,500 on the Eastern Plains of Colorado, before I regressed further into the Heartland (Chadron, Neb.) for my higher ed. Three years and a B.A. in history later, I found myself riding into Denver on the coattails of my girlfriend (a fellow Yuman, but don't call us high school sweethearts) and into employment with YourHub.com. I'm dragging the part of me that enjoys free time kicking and screaming toward a master's degree in history, as well. Sarah and I can usually be found at record stores, second-run movie theaters or having deeply sociological conversations about reality television. Check out my blog, Truth Or Consequences, to see a semi-regularly updated account of my life.
Crawford Clark, journalist, Centennial,  Englewood
On staff since 2005
clarkc@yourhub.com
I am a proud Colorado transplant from the East Coast who has received a B.A. in history from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a B.A. in journalism from Metropolitan State College of Denver. I have worked in a variety of industries as a teacher, property manager and as a mortgage broker. When I am not pursuing my journalistic goals I enjoy skiing, travel, music, photography, cooking and the never-ending maintenance of my 90-year-old bungalow in northwest Denver. I am fortunate to live with my oldest friend and wife, Catherine, a community health nurse practitioner, and my dog Zoë.

Erin Feese, journalist, Arvada, Edgewater, Lakewood, Wheat Ridge
On staff since 2006

I am a Colorado native from Littleton. I love to visit new places, but Colorado is always such a great place to come home to. After going to college for a year in Iowa, I was homesick for the mountains and transferred to CU-Boulder. After graduating from CU, I came to YourHub.com, which is such an exciting place for my first "real" job. Things I enjoy are yoga, skiing, reading, coffee, mint Oreos and playing Frisbee with my dog. Check out my blog at http://denver.yourhub.com/~HideandSeek.

Karen Groves, journalist, Conifer, Evergreen, Golden
On staff since 2005
grovesk@yourhub.com
I am a longtime resident of Evergreen, where I live with my husband and the former Hardware Store cat. We raised our sons here and my mother and in-laws live nearby. I have worked in the publishing industry for many years at a weekly newspaper, a book publisher, and a monthly magazine. I grew up in Dallas and Los Angeles. I went to college at UCLA and UC-Berkeley. For several years I lived in the hills of northwest Arkansas, where I experimented with farming and carpentry. I like walking, reading, photography and always enjoy spending time with my family. Visit my blog about mountain living, where I frequently focus on the wildlife around my house.

Kevin Hamm, journalist, Aurora, Centennial, Cherry Hills Village, Conifer, Englewood, Greenwood Village, Littleton, Sheridan
On staff since 2005
hammk@yourhub.com
I live in central Denver with my wife and three children, two of whom aren't yet walking but soon will be (they're twins). I don't know what happens then. Many years ago I graduated from Texas A&M University, and my peripatetic career has included stints as ski bum, bookstore manager, mortgage banker and stay-at-home dad. My hobbies are changing diapers, making bottles and trying to convince my 2 1/2-year-old daughter that she can have chocolate milk only after dinner, and that breakfast is not dinner.

Joseph Kirchmer, journalist, Castle Pines, Castle Rock, Parker
On staff since 2005
kirchmerj@yourhub.com
I’m a Fort Collins native though my family’s roots are in Kansas (Newton, Kan. to be specific -- home of the Railroaders!). I graduated from Fort Lewis College in 2002 with a major in communications, which I’ve put to ample use since joining the staff here at YourHub.com. My hobbies include reading, exercising, listening to music, teaching my dog Johnny Utah new tricks and trying out new restaurants.

Kristin Morin, journalist, Aurora, Brighton, Commerce City, Green Valley Ranch, Montbello, Northglenn
On staff since 2008
morink@yourhub.com
I'm a sea-level gal hailing from a lifetime on the Great Lakes and who had a hankering for some serious elevation. In early '08, I packed up my cat and a U-Haul trailer, drove west and declared this great square state my new home. My quaint apartment is in Capitol Hill and boasts a toilet that grinds loudly with every flush. I bleed green and white as a graduate from Michigan State University with B.A.'s in journalism and German. I love photography, traveling, mythology, soccer, skiing and red wine. I hate styrofoam, am allergic to deer hair and was once bitten by a squirrel. So that about sums it up: your basic Kristin-in-a-nutshell.

It is inarguable: I do so much pride myself on my not-always-conventional (pretty goofy) characteristics. For example, I may be one of the few left who prefer to write with a quill. Weird? Maybe. Creative? I think so. Born in Denver, I feel fortunate to have been raised in both the Mile High City and Los Angeles, CA. After finally planting my feet firmly in Edgewater, I went on to receive a B.A. in political science from the University of Colorado Denver in 2007. Soon after, I landed my first writing gig as a legislative journalist covering the 2008 Colorado General Assembly. I very much enjoy jogging (especially around Sloan's Lake), writing music with my band and can often be found at a downtown Starbucks with my face in either a novel or a how-to book--that's if it's not in a cinnamon dolce latte.

Kathryn Richert, journalist, Lafayette, Longmont, Louisville and Superior, Thornton, Tri-Towns
On staff since 2008
richertk@yourhub.com
I am a Colorado native, born raised in the same house in Littleton (boring I know, but a great place to grow up). I graduated from CU-Boulder in 2006 with a B.A. in journalism. This is my second "real" journalism job out of college. I was previously a reporter at a community newspaper writing features, education and business stories. I found there are stories to tell every day, even as close as your own backyard. Aside from my working life, I'm enjoying my post-college life in downtown. In my free time I enjoy doing outdoor activities, including running (I'm one of those freaks who runs for fun), snowboarding (I'm still not very good considering how long I've been doing it) and biking (I just bought a cruiser and will ride it, despite what everyone keeps telling me).

Charmaine Robledo, journalist, Denver, Denver North, Denver South, Glendale
On staff since 2005
robledoc@yourhub.com
Although I was born in Manila, Philippines, Colorado has been my home for two decades. I left for a short while to attend college in Missouri and earn my associates degree, but came back to attend the University of Denver and get my bachelor’s in journalism and English. After graduating in June 2004, I freelanced for a small community paper, but then fate brought me to YourHub.com. I love to travel and have visited France, Poland, Bulgaria and Israel. In my off time, I like to read, watch TV and movies and hang out with my friends. Read all about my adventures in this urban/mountain town in my blog, Charmaine in the City.

I am a Colorado native and I live in south Denver with my wife, Melinda. Our son, Prahlad, was born in March 2007 and I am enjoying every minute of his existence. As a journalist, I aim to work together with Douglas County residents to report on what’s important to you, in a truthful and creative fashion. I graduated from Metro State in December 2004 with a journalism degree in news editorial. I enjoy music, movies, reading, art and poetry. I’m a vegetarian -- one of three staffed at YourHub.com. I’ve played guitar since I was in high school, but I’m a little rusty since I don’t practice much. One of my main interests in life is practicing bhakti-yoga, an ancient yoga system based on the teachings of the Vedas. It’s not exactly physical yoga, so I don’t know any postures; it’s more about mantra meditation and self-realization. You can find my blog, The Happening, here .

On staff since 2005

I'm a veteran journalist, with experience all over the field, in daily newspapers, local and network radio news, as a syndicated business talk show host and a senior producer at a broadcast wire service. I also use my voice and editing skills for script and voice work on educational science videos. A native of the frozen tundra of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, I first moved to Colorado in the mid-'70s and returned for good in the mid-'80s. You'll find I'm an 'outdoorsy' type, enjoying hiking, biking, snow shoeing and camping with my girlfriend and a couple of golden retrievers, as well as fly fishing (in my case more like practice casting and bush-snaring). I also love photography, Tattered Cover bookstore browsing, getting dirty in a garden, cooking and good cheese, wine and chocolate. Check out my blog at http://denver.yourhub.com/~DanielsBlog.

I've lived in the same house in southwest Denver my whole life. I left briefly to pursue a B.A. in environmental studies and political science from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I am a Star Wars geek, love reading novels that I should have finished in college and eat too much Jimmy John's. I love to play with my three dogs: Odie, Spunky and Mitzy. I'm very hard to talk to during the Nuggets season, probably because I put my entire happiness on whether or not they won the night before.

Rebecca Zimmerman, journalist, Littleton, Morrison
On staff since 2005
zimmermanr@yourhub.com
I am originally from Indianapolis. During 2003, I went through many life changes. I graduated from Ball State University with a degree in journalism, married my husband, Brent, and moved to Colorado. After a few months of pure exhaustion and figuring out how to get to and from the grocery store, I decided to work at a daycare, but am now ecstatic to be part of the YourHub.com team and put my degree to good use. Colorado has forced me to become one with nature by skiing, hiking and camping. My husband and I also adopted a Brittney Spaniel named Sadie, whom brings me great joy. Check out my blog at http://denver.yourhub.com/~zimmermanr.

I’m part of the unofficial YourHub.com Cynic’s Club -- no small feat when you get to idolize guys like Mencken and Hemingway, but I’m not all that hard to get along with. I’m a music lover, Wikipedia addict and bad joke aficionado -- so I’m probably the source of those bad puns in your Denver and South Denver print editions. Sorry, folks. In my spare time, I pretend I’m finally going to get around to learning guitar and that I’m seriously going to get the apartment clean. Seriously. For real this time.
