Denver rocks.

Senior photos don't have to suck
Contributed by: Eric J. Lubbers   on 6/27/2006

After receiving a totally unexpected shoutout from Lush Report scribe John Zwick in the comments section of Kelsey Page's blog about senior photos, I felt I should share "probably the coolest senior picture ever," as he wrote, with the world.

A friend of the family named Jim Powell back in Yuma has a photography business and a bit of a reputation for accepting the wilder side of photos, so when it came time for my senior pics, I went to him.

I had seen a photo of a fellow YHS student taken in the woods that made it look like he was standing in a creek in his Sunday best and I was pretty disappointed to hear that it was an illusion. So I decided to make it a reality.

The stage was set with an old suit from my dad's closet that didn't fit either of us (under the water the pants are about three inches above my ankles), a $2 metal briefcase from a nearby salvage yard and a drainage lake across Highway 34 from the town's Chinese restaurant.

Moral of the story: Senior photos can be awesome, if you have a photographer that's generous with his time and a little creativity.

Although Clark Kent was faster than a speeding bullet, he could not walk on water. Alternative caption: I told you no one would notice if you wet yourself in a dark suit.

I'm going to live vicariously through my child. Not with sports or academics or anything. Just making sure he does more awesome stuff like couch cushion forts, unusual senior pictures and inspired vandalism sprees.
