People have a lot of grandiose ideas for what they want from their city government. End poverty. Bring in large corporations. Make it rain more.
I just want them to put up a stop light.
Every couple of weeks or so, I can count on the sirens of the firetrucks of Denver Fire Station No. 2 going off. The truck will head down Memphis Street next to the Parkfield Apartment complex, then make a left at Green Valley Ranch Boulevard, then head about a block to Pena Boulevard, where there will be yet another car accident.
The intersection is basically just Pena Boulevard going over GVR Blvd. (formerly E. 48th Avenue, but that's a different blog) with a bunch of on and off-ramps.
In the morning I can usually count on a large amount of congestion coming from the Green Valley Ranch trying to get onto Pena Boulevard from GVR Blvd. and an equal amount of congestion on the off-ramp so those same people can head home that night.
Luckily, I'm coming from the opposite direction.
I wish someone in the city offices would turn on their lights and realize this is an issue that needs to be dealt with immediately.
Google map of GVR Blvd. and Memphis, right next to Pena Blvd.

I was so happy to read your article about having a stop light placed at Green Valley Ranch Blvd and Pena Blvd. Since there has been an influx of new residents in the area, drivers usually make two lanes, one for left turns and one for right turns. After a police officer almost gave me a ticket for turning left in a separate lane, I felt hopeless because I didn't know who I could go to for a stop light to be placed.. When the airport was built, the number of people living in the area was no where near the magnitude in which it is today. 56th Ave and Pena Blvd has the perfect set-up, with traffic lights and turn lanes. The City of Denver needs to seriously evaluate the intersection and realize the citizens lives are being jepordized, if not.

i didn't know the congestion was that bad. I used to go that route all the time when I worked at the airport, but that was at 4:30am.

Getting a stop light installed in Denver is a lot like trying to make it rain more or end poverty.
