I hope to write about anything and everything that comes into my mind, as long as it is in good taste. I hope to communicate effectively and stimulate thought and conversation. I can't wait to get started!

What happens in Vegas, part two
Contributed by: Erin Di Paolo   on 9/24/2007

Last summer, three girlfriends and I escaped to Vegas for a little R&R. We had the time of our lives. So when I found out that one of my closest friends, Lori, was moving to Illinois, I naturally began planning one last excursion before she left. What better place to go than Sin City?

Getting away is much cheaper for me now than it used to be, since I work for Frontier Airlines. Last week Lori, Melissa, and I took a quick trip to Vegas, leaving on the first flight of the day on Tuesday and returning on the last flight on Wedensday. Even though it was a short trip, we managed to make every moment of it. We were tired (and still are), but it was well worth it.

We stayed at Planet Hollywood, formerly known as The Aladdin. We were not sure what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised. The resort was recently remodeled and our room was incredible, with a breathtaking view of The Bellagio's magnificant fountains.

The three of us created moments that time cannot destroy. We spent hours soaking up the sun at the hotel's pool and countless others shopping. We starred in our very own virtual DVD and performed kareoke to "I Will Survive" in front of an entire casino. Other things we did? Well, that stays in Vegas.

One of the highlights of the trip for me, being a huge baseball fan, was meeting the first player I ever had a crush on, Steve Garvey. My two wonderful, amazing friends offered to purchase a totally overpriced picture of Garvey that he signed for me while he and I spent heavenly moments talking as cameras flashed all around us.

Melissa, as the three of us played around in the pool, pretty much summed our experience up in one sentence. She said how wonderful it was to have the freedom to act like a kid. I couldn't agree more. Going to Vegas with my friends was so much more than just an escape from reality; it was a place for us to shine, if only for each other. And each other is all that really matters when only we know what we experienced. The beauty of this trip, as well as the other girlfriend trips I've taken, is that the memories are ours alone, for no one else to have to get or understand.

And it is the memories that will keep us going.

Though our beloved friend, Lori, is moving away, we know we will have many more girlfriend getaways to Vegas and elsewhere. Thanks for the memories, ladies. They are worth their weight in gold -- as are you.
