I hope to write about anything and everything that comes into my mind, as long as it is in good taste. I hope to communicate effectively and stimulate thought and conversation. I can't wait to get started!

Two girlfriends and their sons do Vegas
Contributed by: Erin Di Paolo   on 6/3/2008

I used to be one of those people who was opposed to ever taking their kids on a trip to Las Vegas. I will never do that, I told myself, firmly standing on my convictions. There is a reason why one should never say never.

I broke my own rule, first in January when I took my 13 year old son and 10 year old daughter to Vegas and again last week when my best friend and I took our sons to sin city to celebrate her son, Dawson's, 13th birthday.

I'm so glad rules are made to be broken.

Even though this was my fourth trip to Vegas since September, I truly never tire of the place. There is always something new to experience, whether it be a new hotel or restaurant or show. And since I always go there with different people, the dynamic changes and the memories differ.

This time we stayed at The Mandalay Bay, mostly because of its incredible pool area, complete with a wave pool and a lazy river. We were not disappointed. Upon check-in, I showed the front desk agent my Frontier Airlines badge and asked if we could have an upgrade. Since they were not completely full, he said, they could offer us an upgrade. I figured we would receive a room on a higher floor with a view of the strip; never did I imagine what kind of room we would end up with!

We were given a 1,450 square foot two bedroom suite, complete with two jacuzzi tubs and five tvs! We were so overwhelmed that we dropped our luggage in the doorway and ran around the room like crazy, looking at all the wonderful amenities. It was a great moment, one that I will never forget!

Our two days in Vegas were spent lounging poolside while our sons were given limited freedom to swim and roam the premises. It was the perfect balance for them and for us, as we all got to spend time alone with our best friends and time together as a group.

Two of the highlights from our trip were seeing magician Lance Burton at the Monte Carlo and enjoying a delicious dinner at the Cheesecake Factory to celebrate Dawson's 13th birthday.

Every trip I experience is unique and filled with memories that will last a lifetime. This one was no different. Melissa and I loved the time we spent together and with our sons, hoping out loud that they had the time of their young lives.

We certainly did.
