Collecting Toys For Boys & Girls Clubs

Denver-CBS4--KCNC-TV and King Soopers are teaming up for the 2009 Care 4 Colorado Toy Drivesporting goods, and electronics for Colorado children and youth served by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. this holiday season to collect new toys,

"CBS4 is proud to partner with King Soopers to collect toys for kids whose families may not be able to buy presents during these tough economic times," Walt DeHaven, CBS4 General Manager, said. "We really like working with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver because they reach out to so many deserving children in our community by helping them build self esteem, offering them a place to do homework, be creative and participate in sports."

Anchors Jim Benemann and Karen Leigh are spearheading the 2009 Care 4 Colorado Toy Drive. During CBS4 newscasts viewers will see Jim and Karen encouraging donations such as toys, games, art kits, sporting equipment, electronics, bikes, helmets and other gifts for children and youth and airing stories about the kids served through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.

Toys will be collected from Nov. 27, 2009 through Dec. 31, 2009. Most of the donated items will be distributed at Boys & Girls Clubs' holiday parties scheduled for December 17 - 23. Additional donated items will be used throughout the year in all of the clubs as prizes for the Power Hour learning center program, where kids can earn prizes for doing homework.

On Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., CBS4 will hold a special collection day event at King Soopers in Aurora at 6412 S. Parker Road and at King Soopers in Broomfield at 2355 W. 136th Avenue. CBS4 on-air personalities will be on hand to collect toy donations, thank donors, and greet CBS4 viewers.

"Thousands of local kids choose to spend their after-school time at a Boys & Girls Club, working on homework, staying active and fit, and participating in service and leadership projects," said John Arigoni, President & CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. "We are grateful to CBS4, King Soopers, and members of our community for helping us ensure that each of these children has a joy-filled holiday and knows that there are people out there who really care."

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver has been helping young people make the most of their lives since 1961, when the first club opened its doors to children who needed a positive place to spend free time. Today, boys and girls are served at eight neighborhood youth facilities located throughout the Denver metro area.
